New to Liverpool? Or just looking for a wholesome way to spend an afternoon that doesn’t involve pubs or clubs? We’ve got you.

GREEN

Sefton Park
Sefton Park

By now it’s no secret that walking and getting out in the fresh air actually is beneficial for your mental health. Sefton Park is right on all Smithdown habitants’ doorstep and is one of the best known parks in Liverpool (for good reason). Across its 200-acre reach you’ll find a natural lake, the historic Palm House conservatory, and lots of green space to enjoy. This park is one of the best to enjoy all year-round, from the Autumn season right through to Spring-Summer where the three-day In The Park festival takes place every July. So, even if Sefton isn’t exactly your local park, it is definitely worth the trip out! Calderstones, which is also in south Liverpool, is another lovely greenspace, if a little less well-known. Liverpool has some of the best green spaces, so make sure you get out and enjoy them!

BEACH

Crosby Beach

And why not take advantage of the fact that Liverpool is technically a coastal city! You can see some of the best sunsets in the area from Crosby or Formby beach, and both are easily accessed via Merseyrail services from the city centre stations, Lime Street or Central. And for any art enthusiasts, Crosby is home to artist Anthony Gormley’s controversial installation: Another Place. Both beaches are perfect spots to watch the sunset.

ACTIVITIES

Cosy Kreations
Cosy Kreations

To spend an afternoon connecting with new people, both Girls on The Go and Cosy Kreations host regular workshops and creativity sessions. Think Paint & Sip events and Scrapbooking meet-ups.

One of the best ways to spend an afternoon or evening meeting new people here, is to sign up for a workout class or social groups. Liverpool has loads of options whether you’re a pilates girl or a road runner. For pilates classes, check out LV Pilates a reformer studio based in the city centre who cater to all levels. And there is no shortage of run clubs to join here. For students, we suggest looking at the university’s own run club who meet weekly in Smithdown and host regular socials. Girls on The Go also host a bi-weekly run club catering to both beginners and intermediates, with a coffee catch-up afterwards. For those who don’t fancy running, Girls Who Walk  host monthly walk and talks and coffee mornings.

MUSEUMS

Tate Liverpool is one of three locations from the Tate Museum Collection, and the only one in the North-West of England. Located in Albert Dock and offering free entry, you can expect contemporary exhibitions and unique live events with DJs. One of our faves, the World Museum has permanent aquarium and planetarium exhibits - such a wholesome day out.

COFFEE SHOPS & CAFÉS

Liverpool has so many cute cafés and coffee shops, so your options are endless. Some of our faves include Skaus on Allerton, Moose Coffee, Bean There, Coffi, Leaf, and Rococo. These spots are ideal for a catch up with friends, or to get a bit of uni work done off-campus.
